As leading producer of fresh pineapple and mangoes from Ghana since 1985, Bomarts established a new drying facility in 2013. At that time, the collaboration between Bomarts and Varistor started with a common goal: developing a productive and sustainable value chain for dried Fairtrade mangos based on a long-term vision.
With our partnership as a basis, the Adumanya cooperative of small mango producers was established. The cooperative counts 34 members who deliver their Fairtrade certified mangos to Bomarts for processing. Due to strong commitment of the farmers, intense trainings in good agricultural practices and a close collaboration between the supply chain partners, the annual production volume of the cooperative increased from 150 to 800 metric tons of fresh mangos. With the Fairtrade premium, the producers decided to build a community center where farmers meet and organize trainings. Bomarts has become one of our most important partners during the last years. Varistors is regularly present on the ground to co-create solutions and ideas to develop further and accompany the progress in the field. Originally producing 5 metric tons of dried mangoes, the facility today produces more than 500 metric tons of dried fruits. The product portfolio was diversified and includes mango, pineapple, papaya, coconut and banana today. Most recently, the team works on building a new organic supply chain with their own mango and pineapple plantation. |
